when they find out that I shoot, that I'm actually pretty good. It's partly because I'm a girl, but mostly (and I know this because I ask!) because of the way I look and talk. I'll be 23 next year, but most people guess I'm 17. And yes, I know that in 25 years I'll be thankful that I look younger... I'm not complaining! I'm short, petite, and apparently "innocent-looking." So in a million chances, people never guess that that's what I'm good at.
Luckily I was blessed with two awesome parents who taught me all about the wonders of hunting, target shooting, and most importantly, defending myself if need be. I took my concealed handgun course on my 21st birthday!
Right now I carry a Browning Hi-Power 9mm, not the easiest thing to conceal on my body (which is what I'd ideally like to do). I'm saving up to buy this little beauty. Also in 9mm, but with a 3" barrel. It fits my hand perfectly and I've shot the .40 S&W (Smith & Wesson) and absolutely loved it.
The surprise is doubled, possibly tripled, when I visit Royal in England. Even his Royal Marine (RM) buddies have trouble comprehending a female who LIKES to shoot and LIKES to carry. As y'all may know, you are basically not allowed to defend yourself or your home in the United Kingdom. As a matter of fact, even Britain's top Olympic pistol shooters are not allowed to practice within the country.
The Browning is solid, and I can sympathize with the difficulty in concealing. I carry a Sig P226, which I believe, without looking it up, is pretty close in size. I've also got a little Guardian .32 from North American Arms that slips nicely in my back pocket. Good for carrying at weddings or other such formal occasions when I can't conceal the Sig.

Nice!! I was looking at that little beauty the other day while visiting Missouri, in fact.
Living in the part of CA I do, people are surprised and mostly horrified that I know how to and like to shoot. Then they darn near faint when I tell them that my daughter shoots too. Now she's in the Army, she shoots even better!
