Just a quick post:
Very short article from BBC on the Crackdown on knives in London. It's called "Operation Blunt."
I really wish people would realize that it's not the gun/knife/tool/household item that does the killing. It's the person. I'm sure y'all remember this craziness from May, but there's your reminder if you didn't hear about it.
And just for fun, here's an Evening Times article from a while back on laws that ban stores from selling "assault knives, machetes and other weapons." A few quotes:
"First Minister Jack McConnell has been in talks with chief constables on how to combat the rising level of knife crime, which is at its highest level for 10 years."
"Over the past four years the number of incidents involving knives has risen by 350%, and in Glasgow alone 7500 people were victims of knife crime last year."
"During First Minister's Questions he produced photographs of makeshift weapons, including scissor blades taped to a broom handle, to demonstrate the extent of the problem."
Okay, you knew I had to respond to this... so ya gonna ban scissors next? How about brooms? That will just solve EVERYTHING don't ya know.
"Among the shops affected by the new law would be Victor Morris whose owner Martin Morris describes his stock as "sporting and collectable" items. He said the new measures would be pointless and that most knife crime involved kitchen knives." (italics mine)
I'm blessed 'cause I got an English bloke that insists I carry my handgun with me everywhere! That's not an attitude you hear a lot over the pond...
They are also in the process of writing legislation for banning of all cricket bats that aren't made of foam. Those things can be dangerous you know.
