Patriot Xeno

Their skittles are different. They're mis-shapen AND they have boisenberry instead of grape. At least, that's how it was when I was there a while back.

Kath

That is awesome. Though I don't like grape skittles (or any grape flavored candy) so that's no big deal. :o)

Patriot Xeno

well but the burn is, when you take a handful of skittles and eat them, the boisenberry gives you an overpowering taste of crap, whereas the grape would just blend in

Kath

Oh wow, you're really putting me off trying them now...
I don't think I even know what boisenberry tastes like. I feel so sheltered.

Patriot Xeno

er wait, i think the flavor is black currant instead of boisenberry. either way, pure filth.

Alex

"Not adding tax to everything I buy. It's already on there!"

We refer to it stealth-tax. The governments way of increasing tax without you even knowing.

Will you be in London or outside. I'm moving to London in November- I have a new job.

Alex

Sorry bout that- missing punctuation marks, here you go:

! ? !

Kath

"Stealth tax" very clever! Fits perfectly.
Not exactly sure where I'll be yet - depends on where Royal is.
Wow, congrats on the new job! What great news! It'd be nice to meet you and your Mrs. someday :o)

Pat

Probably the most difficult thing is driving on the wrong side of the road. Especially if you have beeen out to dinner - get in the car and forget you are not in the States

charlie

I don't even know what a boisenberry is?? Our skittles are round, what shape are yours?

The 24 hour thing is really annoying, i have actually complained about this. They say it's the petrol station thats 24 hours.

And you forgot that clothes/CD's and such things are more expensive here. And we don't have Abercrombie - but you might not like that, generally brit girls love it.

Kath

Pat, goodness! I can imagine, I'm going to have to work very hard to keep my wits about me
Charlie, our skittles are round, too... wonder what Xeno thought yours were?
That 24-hour thing gets me! But I know I'll live.
Ah, yes, I've come into contact with the expensive clothes/entertainment as well - Royal has given up and now gets his cds/dvds on Amazon. Probably what I'll do. I'm not a big fan of Abercrombie - they're actually the more expensive line over here and I usually don't have the $$!

Patriot Xeno

Charlie, I clarified that it was probably black currant instead of boisenberry. And I got in an argument with somebody over there about this too, but I didn't have a pack of normal skittles to show them. Yours, at least the ones I was able to find back in '98, are more roundish blobs, where as ours are more perfectly rounded. If things have changed since, then by all means, I'll concede the point, but I swear to you they were different then.

charlie

I had to get some to check (any excuse for some sweets!) They are round if look down on them but kind of dome shaped if you look at them sideways on. And i did have a few mis-shapen ones too.
But on a plus side you get to eat gorgeous cadbury chocolate - your chocolate is a bit bitter AND Walkers crisps.
Blimey we thought Abercrombie cheap, although a USA mate told us it's mainly worn by school kids, not 30 year old marines!

Kath

I do love that chocolate... It's funny because your Mars Bars are our Milky Ways! Had to learn that the hard way ;o)
Abercrombie is mostly the young rich hip crowd, at least around where I live. I like your clothes, though, it's fun to be able to shop in different brands!

BB

Glad the Boisenberry/Blackcurrant issue got clarified. I'd be surprised if more than 10% of the population have any idea what the damn things are, so it's good to hear we're not eating manky fruit by some underhand stealth method.

No 24 hour stuff? Na. There's a huge 24 hour Asda (Walmart for you lot) right here in my little deadend burg. There's plenty of 24 hour places around.

Another difference. This is probably the most important.
Pubs. Proper pubs. Very important.

Kath

To be honest, I don't think I'd ever tried blackcurrants before my Britain trips! I like them very much.
Ah yes, pubs! I don't drink much, but I love pub food. And it's always fun to watch people...
